Day 01: Cochin - Munnar
After you arrive at the Cochin International Airport, you will be met
by our representatives and driven down to Munnar, located about 135 kms
away from here. Munnar is situated 1800 metres above the sea level.
Here, you will see South India's highest peak, Anamudi, which rises to a
height of 2695 meters. Thereafter, you will check in at the hotel in
Munnar. Visit tea gardens after some rest. Overnight stay is at the
hotel.
Day 02: Munnar Sightseeing
You go on a full day sightseeing tour of Munnar today. After breakfast,
you leave to see the Eravikulam National Park, spread over 97 sq km. A
substantial portion of this park consists of a high rolling hill
plateau, with a base elevation of about 2,000 m. The topography
comprises of high altitude grasslands, zigzagged with sholas. The
Anamudi peak in the south of the Himalayas is located inside the park,
which is home to about 26 mammal species like Gaur, Indian Muntjac,
Sambar Deer, Golden Jackal, Jungle Cat, Wild Dog, Leopard and Tiger.
Day 03: Munnar - Periyar
In the morning, you leave for Periyar, located 120 km from Munnar. This
place contains the famous Periyar National Park and Tiger Reserve, also
often called by names like Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary and Thekkady.
After checking at the hotel, you go for a brief sightseeing tour. Night
stay is at the hotel.
Day 04: Periyar Sightseeing
You for a boat tour of the scenic Periyar Lake, spread over an area of
26 square kilometers, in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. This lake was
formed as a result of the building of the Mullaperiyar Dam in 1895. The
boat will take you on a tour along the meandering contours of the wooded
hills here. The permanent source of water in the lake supports the rich
flora and fauna of this sanctuary. In the afternoon, you visit the spice
plantations. Night stay is at the hotel.
Day 05: Periyar - Kumarakom
You will leave for Kumarakom village today that abounds in flora and
fauna. This place is a well-known bird sanctuary where many exotic
species of migratory birds come. Then, there is the Vembanad Lake, the
largest backwater in Kerala. On arrival, you will check in at a hotel.
Later during the day, you take a brief ferry tour of this lake that
teems with marine species like Karimeen, Shrimp and Prawn. Overnight
stay is at the hotel.
Day 06: Kumarakom - Houseboat
You board the houseboat from the Kumarakom jetty in the morning. While
sailing down Lake Vembanad, you pass through a maze of canals, seeing
scenes of the villages, paddy fields, coconut palms, fisherman and local
life. Since overnight stay is in the houseboat, you will have a lip
smacking lunch, dinner and the next day breakfast on the boat only. The
cool breeze blowing over the lake waters will have a very peaceful
effect on you and slowly lull you to sleep.
Day 07: Houseboat - Alleppey - Cochin
You disembark from the houseboat at Alleppey that is also called the
'Venice of the East', because of its narrow canals and backwaters. Form
here, you leave for Cochin and check in at the hotel on arrival. Go on a
Cochin sightseeing tour in the afternoon. The St Francis Church, Chinese
Fishing nets, Jewish Synagogue and the Dutch Palace are some of the many
important tourist destinations here. You spend the night at the hotel.
Day 08: Cochin Departure
In the morning, you will be escorted to Cochin airport, from where you
board the flight to your onward destination.
